Purpose of the MEP

The principal operational goal of the MEP is to ensure that

all migratory students meet challenging academic

standards so that they graduate with a high school diploma

or received a High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) that

prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning,

and productive employment.

Refer participants to the poster (or handout) of Title 1, Part C, Section 1301 of ESEA as amended by ESSA.
Tell participants that while the broad operational goal of the MEP is displayed on the screen, Title 1, Part C, Section 1301 of ESEA as amended by ESSA provides five purposes of the MEP.
Remind participants that graduating from high school or obtaining a high school equivalency diploma (HSED)—previously referred to as a GED®—as mentioned in the video, is included in the previous purpose statement.
Have participants record in their Outline (p. 2) the overall goal of the MEP.
Ask participants to think about the MEP program in their districts and consider how the overall goal of the MEP is currently being met. Have participants record their responses in their Outline (p.2).
