Our Migratory Families

Because I know my migratory families’ characteristics,

I know any conversation I have with them should

• be in their own language, when possible;

• use commonly understood words and terms; and

• connect the program services to family’s values.

Ask participants to discuss, with others at their tables, the migratory family characteristics that they identified and how those characteristics shape any conversations they might have with parents.
Actively monitor table groups. Once conversations wind down, bring participants back to a whole group discussion.
Share a few characteristics that participants may have already identified.

Once all three bullets are displayed, ask participants if they discussed anything else they do to ensure effective communication with their migratory families and youth.
