Trainer’s Notes
Ask participants to think about an occasion when they had to explain the purpose of the COE to someone. Participants may share that they had to explain the purpose to parents or school personnel.
Ask participants if they are comfortable explaining the purpose of the COE. Let them know they will now have an opportunity to increase their comfort level, making those conversations with parents and district staff a little easier.
Click to display directions on the slide. Ask participants to work with a partner at their tables. Together they should develop a brief explanation of the purpose of the COE and record it in their Outline (p. 2).
Make sure participants understand that the explanation should be written so that it can be stated aloud and make sense.
Debrief: Allow volunteers to share their explanations. You may wish to record some of the explanations on chart paper. As the training progresses, this will be a reference tool to visually remind participants about the purpose of the COE, especially when discussing why certain data is captured.
