Review of State COE
20
- State COE, one copy per participant; trainer will need to provide this document
- Poster-sized version of the State COE displayed at the front of the room (optional)
- Instructions for the National COE, pp. 6–17 in Trainer’s Resource Materials (optional)
- Walk the participants through each section of the State COE using the language from the state manual. Every field on the COE should be discussed regarding
- format of data to be entered (e.g., How are dates entered? When are abbreviations acceptable?); and
- clarification on how various circumstances will be addressed (e.g., what if the family cannot provide a home base address?).
- Since states have been given flexibility in meeting the requirements of the National COE, slides for this segment of the presentation have not been included.
- For training purposes, it is recommended that slides not be created for this portion of the training. Instead, allow participants to experience the COE by filling in data elements as they are reviewed and discussed.
- Displaying a poster-sized version of the State COE will enable you to guide participants quickly to a specific field that is being discussed. It can remain posted throughout the remainder of the training as a reference.
